RAKU
Raku firing is exciting, expressive and fun! I think raku firing is one of the most exciting processes in ceramics. After I place my pottery or scultures into a raku kiln, the anticipation builds as I wait for that final moment when the intense heat begins to melt the raku glazes. I remove the pieces when the glazes begin to melt, and at this point you can feel the heat and hear the ceramic make small "ping" sounds as the red hot ceramic is rapidly cooling.
Then it’s into the raku combustibles for a round of flame and smoke.
Afterwards many surprises awaits as I clean the surface and reveal the wonders of raku pottery!
